Cherrywood Art Deco Table with Ancient Redgum

This piece was designed to sit in the dining room of a beautifully restored Art Deco home. The table draws inspiration from the masterful French Art Deco designer Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann. A rectangular Cherry wood table top sits over a structural band of black ancient Murray River Redgum timber. The curved bases are perfectly proportioned to complete a classic and elegant Art Deco design.

Nicholas and his client had several meetings and many cups of coffee while discussing the many different design options before settling on this unique design. The timber colours and finish were selected to compliment the existing furniture and colours within the house.

The Story of Ancient Murray River Redgum
These trees grew on the banks of the Murray River until they were felled by erosion between 5,000 and 10,000 years ago. These dates have been confirmed by radiocarbon dating at the Australian National University. The river waters left fine grained material deposits on the wood, which preserved the trees resulting in the ebonised colouration.
