Cherrywood Partners Desk with Ancient Redgum

This piece, based on traditional partner’s desks found in the United Kingdom in the 19th Century, was given a 21st Century makeover. The desk is constructed from Cherry wood and includes Ancient Redgum features and six brass framed leather covered panels. The side panels of the pedestal contain a quartered bookmatch veneer diamond of Ancient Redgum framed by a Cherrywood cockbead. Specialist features were incorporated into the desk including concealed brass handles to remove the leather panels, concealed monitor access and a number of secret compartments.

Functional aspects of the desk include leather covered computer keyboard and mouse slide, filing drawers and cupboards. The draw slides and runners were made from hard wearing oak and all veneering work used hide glue for its proven track record as a woodworking glue over thousands of years.

The Story of Ancient Murray River Redgum
These trees grew on the banks of the Murray River until they were felled by erosion between 5,000 and 10,000 years ago. These dates have been confirmed by radiocarbon dating at the Australian National University. The river waters left fine grained material deposits on the wood, which preserved the trees resulting in the ebonised colouration.
